Introduction

The world is changing, and fast. Much faster than ever before, and at such a rate that it is becoming difficult to keep up with the various advancements. Unlike previous industrial revolutions, we see advancements occurring in many different industries. Some say this rate of change is exponential, but it actually feels faster than that.

Technology is driving much of this transformation. Enabling us to increase productivity, make better informed decisions, and solve many problems we have previously struggled with. Artificial Intelligence is having a significant impact on every industry and every aspect of business and the workplace. It is probably the most disruptive technology we will ever see, likely to change our world in ways we have yet to imagine.

We experienced a real pivotal moment in 2023, with the first general-purpose AI having mass-market appeal based on its range of applications and utility. The world woke up to the potential of AI and its widespread impact. It’s true to say that AI has come of age, found it’s utility and demonstrated mass application that can be used by individuals and businesses of all sizes and industries. The technology industry moved fast to integrate the core elements and then to adapt and extend its capabilities to realise its full potential for all.

This ultimately means more roles within the workplace will need to leverage AI capabilities as part of their work. Understanding and using AI will become an essential skill in the workplace. In the future we will all need to be confident with AI and not just in the workplace, it will also play a significant part in our personal lives too.
